Meet the Orthodontist
Dr. Duncan Higgins received his dental degree from the University of Alberta in 1977. He completed his orthodontic residency at Indiana University in 1981 where he earned his masters degree and won the outstanding orthodontic graduate award. Dr. Higgins opened his orthodontic office in Delta in 1984. He developed an indirect bonding technique which was published in Seminars in Orthodontics. He is the inventor and patent holder of the
Xbow™ (Crossbow™) Class II Corrector. Ongoing studies at the University of Alberta on the Xbow have resulted in an article in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and two articles in the Angle Orthodontist. The Xbow is used by orthodontic residents at the University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario and University of British Columbia. Dr. Higgins has lectured throughout Canada and the US, including the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto, on indirect bonding, Xbow, and the CAAPP system of brackets, which uses the best of both traditional brackets and the latest passive self-ligating brackets. He is a regular lecturer to the orthodontic residents at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Higgins is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Higgins is married to Norma and they have three adult children, Kate, Sally, and Kyle, who grew up in North Delta and Surrey.
